Canada Joins the Party on TikTok Bans
Canada announced Monday it will follow the lead of the US and the European Commission and ban TikTok on all government-issued devices.

Canadians move fast: The move comes just days after Canada said they were opening an internal probe into TikTok’s privacy practices. It was also the same day the EU banned its staff from accessing the app. Canada officials cited an “unacceptable” level of privacy and security risk led to their decision.
TikTok responds: A spokeswoman for TikTok said Canada issued the ban “without citing any specific security concern or contacting us with questions.” I believe the spokeswoman because they did it so fast, but I also don’t think it would’ve made a difference.
Sign of more? The move of Governments banning TikTok on staff devices leads me to believe there will be farther-reaching bans taking place in the near future. From the Government’s POV - if they shouldn’t be using the app, why should everyday civilians? FWIW, China bans our popular apps all the time.
It would, however, be an incredibly unpopular political move and Joey B has an election coming up next year.

🤖 Snapchat launches its own AI chatbot (CNBC)
The chatbot, named “My AI”, is powered by OpenAI technology and will be released exclusively to Snapchat+ subscribers.
My AI will work similar to Bing’s Sydney or chatGPT in that it can do things like recommend gift ideas, weekend plans, itineraries, or recipes.
Even my Mom has a chatbot at this point (shoutout to you Mom).
📱 Tesla pauses new Full Self-Driving Beta installations until recall is addressed (The Verge)
Tesla recently “recalled” over 360,000 vehicles due to unsafe features in the FSD beta.
Remember , a recall for Tesla software is literally them just shipping an over-the-air update.
I try to be an early-adopter at times, but why the hell would you buy a Beta version of autonomous driving?
🚀 SpaceX Postponed its Mission to the ISS (WSJ)
SpaceX and Nasa decided to delay due to an issue relation to ignition fluid.
The team will try again March 2nd. Better Safe than Sorry, right?
💊 Pill-Pusher, I mean Telehealth company, Cerebral lays off 15% of staff (WSJ)

Zuck Announces new Internal AI Team
In boomer fashion, Mark Zuckerberg went on Facebook to announce Meta will be forming a new internal team focused on Generative AI.

The new AI squad is tasked with building “creative and expressive” tools that can be used inside Meta’s suite of products - like Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, & WhatsApp.
The team will pull people from across the company currently working on generative AI in their current role and will report to the Chief Product Officer.
The company has no shortage of creative ways they could deploy consumer-facing AI:
“We’re exploring experiences with text (like chat in WhatsApp and Messenger), with images (like creative Instagram filters and ad formats), and with video and multi-modal experiences.”
Zuck is Bullish: The announcement comes just days after Meta announced its new large language model -LLaMa - that competes with GPT-3 technology on performance.
Meta has also invested more than almost any company in the last couple of years into building out AI infrastructure, primarily to improve its content and ad recommendation engines.
